Who Is She?
Jillian Evelyn's paintings investigate the depths of awkwardness, discomfort, and contortion both from external expectations and within ones' own thoughts. Once working in black and white, Evelyn now paints her figures and abstractions bathed in vibrant color. Citing influences from the folk art of Margaret Kilgallen and Frida Kahlo, to the classic figurative mastery of John Currin, Evelyn is able to reflect her personal conflicts while allowing for the viewer's personal interpretations. She primarily works with latex and acrylic based paint on wood, but has began expanding into making murals and painting large scale pieces.
